The promoting joint venture is formed by two companies, CALIBRAFRUTA-EQUIPAMENTOS HORTOFRUTÍCOLAS LDA. and MAIO, CARMO & MARTINS LDA., and by a non-business entity, UNIVERSIDADE DO ALGARVE, gathering the technical and scientific competences for the project development.
Joint venture
CALIBRAFRUTA is a Portuguese company specialized in the production of automatized electronic equipments for fruit and vegetables processing, since 1992. Its outstanding precision on the fruit selection and the constant new technologies development makes it one of the most reliable companies on the sector. Created in 1979, the UNIVERSIDADE DO ALGARVE (UAlg) presents itself as the reference University on the south of Portugal, being recognized by the excellency of its investigation, by the quality of its education and by the close relationships it establishes with society.
The Ualg project development is under Centro de Eletrónica, Optoeletrónica e Telecomunicações (CEOT) supervision. CEOT is an investigation centre located at Algarve University and was created in 2003 result of a joint effort from several young scientists on the electronic, optoelectronic and telecommunications areas.
Nowadays, CEOT is comprised by a multidisciplinary group of investigators on the areas of computing, computation sciences, electronics, physics, and biology, which share a strategy of investigation oriented to an integrated approach of the networks, electronics and monitoring applications in biology. The investigation activities include the communication networks, with emphasis on the Internet Of Things (IoT), and the biologic monitoring in agronomic applications, specially the optical and electric measurements.
MCM is a solutions development and implementation company in virtual instrumentation. Since 2001, they innovate and overcome the demands and expectations of their customers. MCM provides solutions from industrial testers, virtual vision analysis systems, monitoring systems and embedded systems tailored to each production line, industrial software development, electronic boards, and PCBs layout.
This project has the purpose of assuring the coordination of the activities related to the construction of the prototype, establishing a bridge between the company and the University, transferring the pre-industrial scale knowledge to a functional prototype at an industrial scale.

The Cooperative was born to its associative rural life in 1966. Some of the distinct precursors of the cooperative movement took in hands the hard task of serving the farmers on their most varied needs.
This Institution asserted in the cooperative panorama has a solid house trying to provide its collaborators services as diverse as the sale of production factors and farming equipments, as well as production support, fruit sales and storing. In the Fruits and Vegetables Section (O.P.), its collaborators are proud of showing off the CAB brand, as a superior quality symbol, namely its most internationally recognized product, the Rocha Pear, Queen of the West Fruits.
Under this project, CAB will contribute with a testing of the prototype sorting machine during the season.
